What Pythia is

Pythia is a free, open-source project. It gives AI models the tools to act as helpers in the investment world: researching companies, reading filings, testing strategies and, if you choose, placing trades in your own account under rules you set. Using Pythia does not depend on any payment. Pythia's paid MCP data service and its Plus and Pro subscriptions are wholly optional; the software works fully without them, with your own AI provider keys.

What Pythia isn't

Pythia is self-directed software and an information service. It is not a hedge fund, a broker-dealer, an investment adviser or a financial planner, and it is not registered as any of these under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, the Investment Advisers Act of 1940 or any state securities law. Pythia does not pool money, does not manage money on anyone's behalf, and never takes custody of your assets. Where Pythia Desktop places orders, it does so through your own brokerage account, under rules and limits you set.

Words like "fund", "desk" and "staff" on this site describe how the software is organised. They do not mean Pythia operates a fund or employs advisers.

Advisor-like help, not an investment adviser

Pythia can learn your goals, risk tolerance and constraints during onboarding, and its agents can then act in an advisor-like role: researching on your behalf, proposing trades and explaining their reasoning. That help comes from free, open-source software you run yourself. Pythia receives no compensation for advice. Its optional paid plans pay for data and AI usage, not for advice. Pythia is therefore not acting as an investment adviser as that term is defined in the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, and is not a registered investment adviser, broker-dealer or member of FINRA. You remain responsible for your own investment decisions.

AI-generated content can be wrong

Pythia's research, briefs, answers and trade proposals are produced by artificial intelligence. They may be inaccurate, incomplete, out of date or simply wrong, and may state facts, figures or events that are not real. Content is generally not reviewed by a person before you see it. Verify anything important with the original source before relying on it. Pythia cites its sources so you can.

Automated trading carries real risk

• Investing involves risk, including the loss of principal.
• Automated and semi-automated trading can lose money, including while you are away and not watching.
• Software, data feeds, brokers and networks can fail, be delayed or behave unexpectedly.
• No returns are guaranteed. Past performance of any security, market or strategy does not predict future results.

You are responsible for the rules, limits and level of autonomy you give Pythia, and for every order placed in your account.

Backtests look back; the future is unknown

Backtests and parameter searches run on the market data you choose. They show how a strategy would have performed on that data, and they are only as accurate as the data behind them, so verify it before relying on a result. Anything forward-looking is hypothetical: past performance, including a strong backtest, does not determine or predict future returns, and a strategy that did well historically can lose money going forward.

The Algo Forge demonstration on this site runs on simulated prices, for illustration. Examples that use a placeholder ticker such as "XYZ" are illustrative, not real securities or trades.

Desk personas

Some Pythia features present AI commentary personas modelled on the documented ideas of historical and public figures. They are AI-generated interpretations offered as commentary. They are not the real people, do not speak for them, and are not affiliated with, authorised by or endorsed by any named person, their estate or any related entity. Data and sources

Pythia ships with a set of default data sources, such as SEC filings and congressional and executive financial disclosures, and you can add any other data sources you like. Whatever the source, you are responsible for verifying the accuracy of any data before using it. Data may be delayed; without an account, Pythia MCP serves data at least one day old. Source attributions that accompany Pythia's data must be kept wherever that data is presented, and Pythia's content is licensed for your own use and may not be redistributed, resold or republished without permission.

Plans and pricing

Paid plans are optional conveniences, never a condition of using Pythia. Prices shown for Plus and Pro are planned launch pricing and may change before purchase opens. Features described as planned are not included until they ship.

Built on Hermes, by Nous Research

Pythia Desktop is a fork and modification of Hermes Desktop, the open-source agent application created by Nous Research. Hermes gave Pythia its foundation: the desktop app, the agent runtime, and much of the tooling Pythia's desks are built on.
